does the universe have a collective consciousness?.
at the sub nuclear level of reality...we are all one.
at the core basis of the universe is a single universal field of intelligence.

how come the watchtower will not side with christendom and address a topic like the following?
what if christendom had allowed islam to spread it's plunder into europe without a fight and great force?
i direct your attention to islam spreading not as a distraction, but to ask the question most atheist have asked me when we talk of this subject.
I read a debate with Cardinal Pell
I saw that debate you are speaking of here...and geesh...I don't think he did christianity any favours by opening his mouth. He really was ignorant.
I don't say that lightly either. I have heard some really good christian speakers. Cardinal Pell isn't one of them.

Seing as you are doing a 'what if' thread here and telling me to think for myself I hope you will accept this thought of mine and not insist I prove it, or start wheeling on the bearded magician.
I shall...and I am very grateful for your thoughts. I hadn't even considered the possibility of consciousness evolving after death. To be honest, I can't quite get my head around that either.
I am not trying to prove of disprove anything with this thread. Well...not to anyone else. Just throwing ideas around and seeing where they land.
*I do like the bearded magician though... *

Athanasius...History will show that it is "Politics, not religion is the real force behind the mass murders.
I am still undecided about that. The role of christianity and belief certainly plays a role. It has to since the vast majority of the world hold some sort of belief or other.
I am inclinded to think that this saying is true..."religion is the opiate of the masses" and quite often enables corrupt governments to easily control their people. The more religion, the easier they are to control. For example, in cambodia the population is predominantly buddhist...peace loving people. It wasn't too difficult for the Khmer Rouge to take over and dictate to them.
And then you have Islam...that IS their government.

Germany was predominantly a 'christian' nation.
The propaganda by the Christian churches in regard to their role during WWII in Fascist Italy, Yugoslavia, and Nazi Germany has so conditioned their believers that most of them believe that Christianity played an honorable role at best, and only a silent role at worst. Yet there seems little recognition that the very framework of the beliefs owned by the Fascists and Nazis came from their Christian upbringing from church, school, and Christian traditions. The entire anti-Jewish and racial sentiments came not from some new philosophy or unique ideology, but rather from centuries of Christian preaching against the Jews, gypsies, and heretics. This comes especially true for European countries, for the Christian practice of crusades, inquisitions and holy wars occurred in their own backyards. Moreover, the wars conducted by Providence, approved by God, appears so often in the Bible, and practiced by Christians throughout the centuries has disciplined Christians to believe that they could engage in offensive war honorably and even worse-- morally. One must remember that the Catholic raised and Protestant conditioned Hitler took his cause of war for an expanded Germany and his fight against the Jews, for Providence's sake, and a fight for the Lord. He appealed to his fellow German Christians to put him in power and he achieved popular support. I find it unimaginable that Hitler, without this religious foundation, could have churches, politicians and citizens electing him into office, much less have acted against the Jews.

Dinesh D'Soua is far from an idiot...I like to listen to him debate. But...IMO he is wrong about a LOT of things.
And besides...atheism is just non belief in any god. It is not an organised group. There are some organised groups but they do not represent ALL atheists. They speak for themselves.

I Love Hitch...and this is a nice quote of his.
in the movie annie hall, written by woody allen, as a young boy, alvy's mother, takes him to see a doctor as he appears to be dealing with some kind of depression.
when the doctor asks alvy what's up, alvy explains that he just found out the universe is expanding, everything will spread out and go cold and die, therefore nothing he does matters, so he is not going to do anything anymore.
most people might see this as a joke, but i think woody is trying to make a serious point.. the point here is about meaning.
marking to read...thanks
why would the creator of the universe ,according to the bible ,converse ,either by angels, prophets,or in one or two occassions personally with humans centuries ago , and lets face it they are nowhere near as educated and enlightened as the present generation , and not communicate with the present generation.?
shoudnt their be more reason for him to communicate with his creation today than ever before ?
and using the excuse that jesus life and experiences does not cover it.jesus never wrote anything down.the scriptures themselves say everything he said could not be recorded because it would fill volumes ???
"There are bugs in your triscuits."
LMAO!
